What Causes High Latency?
- Physical distance: Speed of light limits fiber to ~200,000 km/s, so distance adds unavoidable delay.
- Router hops: Each router adds 1-5ms of processing delay.
- Network congestion: Queuing at overloaded routers adds variable delay (jitter).
- WiFi interference: 2.4 GHz WiFi can add 10-30ms vs wired.
