Bits vs Bytes: The Key Difference
Internet speeds are measured in bits per second (Mbps, Gbps), while file sizes use bytes (MB, GB). Since 1 byte = 8 bits, divide your Mbps speed by 8 to get MB/s throughput.
Example: 100 Mbps internet = 12.5 MB/s maximum download rate.
Common Bandwidth Reference
- 4K streaming: ~25 Mbps required
- HD streaming: ~5-10 Mbps required
- Video call (HD): ~2-4 Mbps up and down
- Online gaming: ~3-6 Mbps (low latency matters more)
